Yes, Burton is a good town, sadly lead by Fools & Horses, whom just seem to want to pull each other down. One wants one thing, the other another., so there is never ever a cohesive move in a forward direction. Just look or remember how Burton quietened down when the By -pass was constructed. Then that `Bailey` called St Peters bridge was assembled and the traffic all returned. Call that progress I do not I call it greed and inefficiency of vision. Why in heavens name can not the councils forget there political `Bent` and work together for a better quality of life for all whom live "In Burton".

I saw Mx. Smith on Most Haunted years ago in an episode where she was in costume as Mary Queen of Scots. Reciting a speech that Mary gave or would have to visitors to the castle. She was great then as she is in this video. Hope to see more like this. It helps to bring History to life. Thank you for uploading and hope to see more. Thank you once again.

Moved here 27 yrs ago. Loved the town, it was clean, tidy and we had a council that weren't so greedy. Now its filthy, zero activities, the rivers are polluted, there's garbage and constant fly tipping everywhere. Oh! And now we have an Mp "Katie Griffiths ", who got in on a mass sympathy vote due to her now ex hubby being a town sex pest, he was previously the Mp for Burton also, you couldn't make this shite up! Our current Mp believes her veiws on local decisions are the only ones that matter! She also voted aye to continue animal testing. Despicable woman, so many won't be voting her in come 2024!

Up until the '80's I thought Bargates was a great, unique building. In the early '70's there was a fashion shop there, me and my sister used to go to a cafe towards the Washlands for egg custards and had great times at Coasters' disco in the early '80's. Happy memories for me ❤

I say, the bastards who leave their dog shit in the pavement and people drive should have it posted through their fucking letter box!!!!! Only dirty C***s leave their shit on the floor. Frigging hang them up by their ear and throw rocks at them, dirty bastards. My village used to be a dog sewerage line and there was shit on my fucking drive way almost every day of the year. I even stepped in it and when I confronted the dirty C*** who left it, she couldn't give a shit, dirty bitch! ) :<

Thank you for this. I have photographs of several pieces the same shape 53 or 54 as the last very tall vase, which were decorated by my Great Grandfather, John Barker (1867-1943), many years before the people in the mural, but he was a contemporary of William Oram Trivett (in the mural). John Barker states he was head designer-decorator under Henry Tooth of course, between 1894 and c1900. He was York School of Art trained in design, alongside an almost five year apprenticeship in the medieval trade of the "Painted Glass" trade in York, with the master of that craft, John Ward Knowles, between 1884 and 1888. In 1889 he started at Burmantofts as "Artist" then soon after went with a group of artists, a modeller and others fed up with pay and conditions started in direct competition as the Leeds Art Pottery (LAP) also in 1889. When a partner and others left LAP he became head designer under the uncle of the girl he would marry, Harold Leach (LAP owner) who had been one of the top artists at Burmantofts as was his former LAP partner Roland Charles Browne). After starting examinations with South Kensington through the York School of Art in 1884, he continued after his apprenticeship and by 1893 John Barker had won four or more National art awards, called "The "Queen's Prize" as well as a "National Book Prize" in the examinations held each year. Each year the best seven works would be selected from over 2,000 art works submitted annually from all over the Kingdom, and John Barker was chosen in seven different years to be among those seven chosen, and of these he was the winner six times, winning one of these while at Bretby, through the Burton [on Trent? Art?] Institute[ ?] in 1895. By 1893 he had won four National art awards, his first in 1887, he claimed was his best, as he says he was the youngest ever to win, the first ever under twenty, when he was 19 years old. By 1893 with four National art awards, coupled with his art training, apprenticeship and experience at LAP (1889 to 1893), to become head designer at the Leeds Art Pottery his resume when he applied to Henry Tooth would have looked impressive. So after eloping with the owner's niece in February 1893, he did not go back to the Leeds Art Pottery and he and Maud, who was also a pottery decorator, may have gone to Burmantofts for some months before he applied and they moved to South Derbyshire, living at 28 Hartshorne Road, Woodville. In that house my grandfather Leo and his brother Jack were born in 1895 and 1897 respectively. He remained as designer working with Henry Tooth, former Linthorpe Art Pottery Manager, for six years. When he finally left Bretby circa 1900 John Barker became the chief designer-decorator for Hexter & Humpherson's newly combined Royal Aller Vale & Watcombe Art Potteries, at Torquay in Devon. He was head designer there from c1900 to 1905 then later between 1915 and 1924. In 1905 he helped friend, Charles Collard to start a new art pottery Collard & Co Poole Dorset (by 1909 called "Crown Dorset" later "Honiton Pottery"), then was appointed as head designer at Pountney & Co's Bristol Pottery at their brand new, "state of the art" pottery at Fishponds, Bristol between 1906 and 1908. There he produced several ranges of "art wares" they called them, which carried branded names like 'Bristol "Baronial" Pottery' all coming with a "JB" printed mark. In 1908 or 1909 John Barker started his own Tor Vale Art Pottery with one of his decorators at Bristol, Enoch Staddon, until Staddon left in 1910. Tor Vale Art Pottery continued in production from 1908-09 through to 1915. As mentopned he spent the next nine years as head designer at Watcombe, before migrating to Australia in 1924. In a nutshell! Would love to see more pottery shown from that era he was at Bretby - 1893 to c1900

10 to 15 minutes????? In America these dirty thieves can do it in 1 to 2 minutes maximum. Wonder why such a big difference in the time? I just lost my catalytic converter and 2 oxygen sensors on my Honda Element. It's parked outside at an assigned parking spot at the apartment building where I live. I have to have it fixed and its very expensive. The biggest problem is I have no way to protect it from happening again, so I have to sell it right away, I am sick about it. Putting on a cat converter guard is only a temporary deterrent to slow the "IDIOT LAZY THIEVES" down, but can't stop them. The laws must go after the places that buy these cat converters in order to stop them. I've also heard that many of the cat converters are also being shipped over seas, don't know if that's true or not though. Any ideas if alarms help, or etching vin numbers helps?

Burton-upon-Trent is a decent town, but it's sadly decaying. Businesses closing and the younger generations moving away. Great shame.
